From the recording Our Christmas Song
This was a song written shortly after my Aunt Nancye's passing last year, remembering a remarkable Christmas I shared with my cousins, made possible because she, my uncle and grandparents put us kid's first and made a memory out of very little. We're using this song to raise money for women and children's shelters in Buffalo and Rochester, two cities very dear to our hearts as a band.
Lyrics
Our Christmas Song
Words and Music by David Michael Miller
Late December, I remember very well, waking dream
Took the journey, braved a stormy eastern coast, towards the sea
To Port Jeff station, a vacation to my kin, and second home
And five young children, raised together, I grew up on my own
I didn’t have much, my cousins even less
I got the sense were always scraping by
But that's a Christmas we never will forget
A lovingly extravagant surprise
CHORUS
It wasn’t ‘bout a faith, it wasn’t ‘bout a yearly celebration
It wasn’t ‘bout the cost, it wasn’t ‘bout a budget allocation
It was all about the joy, The wonder of young girls and boys
Unwrapping endless toys, the beauty of the noise
It truly was .. all about us
Should have seen it faces lit up with a sweet disbelief
Gifts like Mountains, couldn’t count them all around the tree
No homes perfect today that wasn’t true
Cuz we received some magic we could hold
Years can steal the days of innocence we knew
But this old memory is like guarded gold
